Where to Play in Bryson City
The Polar Express Experience
No winter trip to Bryson City is complete without the Polar Express Train Ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Inspired by the beloved book and movie, the ride takes families on a magical nighttime journey to the North Pole—kids wear pajamas, sip hot cocoa, listen to the story, and wait for Santa to board the train. Recap here
Tips for the Best Experience
Tickets sell out quickly, so it’s best to buy early in the summer. The best cars are Carolina Shine and Silver Meteor, and if you want the North Pole side, choose seats ending in C or D. There is no preshow before boarding; the experience begins on the train with music, songs, a reading of The Polar Express, cookies, and hot cocoa. The train travels a real distance, passing the North Pole village, but passengers do not deboard—this keeps the magic intact. Santa boards the train to give the first gift of Christmas, which adds an extra touch of wonder.
Ticket Options (per four people)
Coach: Adults $44 / Kids $29 / Babies under 23 months free (seat required).

We rode Coach and loved it—comfortable, festive, and full of holiday magic.
