Unearth a Story this Summer at Union County Library
Union County Library’s annual
Summer Reading Challenge, starts June 8 and runs through Aug. 1. The program encourages children, teens, and adults to stay engaged in reading and activities during the summer months while earning prizes along the way.

Register online today and begin tracking your reading and activities Monday, June 8. Everyone who registers will receive a prize from the Treasure Chest, with chances to earn additional prizes and entries into grand-prize drawings once you complete the program. Registration prizes and tickets can be redeemed at your nearest library starting Monday, June 8.

The Summer Reading Program is free and open to all age groups, with separate activities, point systems, and prizes tailored for children, teens, and adults. Visit the library's Summer Reading webpage to see all program details and the full calendar of summer events or stop by your nearest library location.

 
Big Dino Summer Reading Program Kickoff

Celebrate the start of Summer Reading the kickoff event and register for the chance to win prizes for reading! "The Big Dino Show" presented by Sigmon Theatrical is an action-packed show that will transport you back in time to the days where dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Monday, June 8, at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., at Main Library
Tuesday, June 9, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Union West Library
Wednesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Edwards Memorial Library
Thursday, June 11, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Southwest Regional Library
 
Dino Academy
Register for Summer Reading to receive a ticket to step into the prehistoric world with Dino Academy presented by Bright Star Theater! Led by the quirky and curious Dr. Sarah Tops, this action-packed adventure uncovers fascinating dino facts that will wow even the biggest dino fans. Featuring life-like, colorful dinosaur puppets that stomp, roar and charm their way into every heart, this show blends science, storytelling and imagination in the style of your favorite nature programs. It’s an unforgettable field trip through time—without ever leaving your seat!
Monday, July 6 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Union West Library
Tuesday, July 7 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Main Library
Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Southwest Regional Library
 
Expedition Dino Squad
Complete the Summer Reading program to receive a ticket for an adventure with four iconic dinosaurs in this immersive dinosaur museum. Dino Squad features the incredible fossils, models, and the paleo art of legendary Disney artist Phil Wilson, and fantastic dino books.
This exhibit is only at the Main Library in Monroe on July 31 and August 1 with walk-though tours from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. And 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. With a lunch break for the dinos from 12 to 1 p.m.

Explore Union County Library's mobile library, OLiVe! Browse a selection of books, sign up for a library card, and learn more about library resources, programs and services. Plus, a visit to OLiVe counts towards your Summer Reading goals! Upcoming pop-up stops include:

Tuesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. - noon, at Dogwood Park
Wednesday, June 10, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at Chick-fil-A (This is the Chick-fil-a in Monroe and they have fun activities and free food giveaways. Their flyer is attached.)
Thursday, June 11, from 10 a.m. - noon, at Jesse Helms Park
