Day Trips from Charlotte: Discover Fort Mill, SC
Looking for a charming escape just outside the hustle of Charlotte? Fort Mill, South Carolina, located just 30 minutes south of the city, is quickly becoming one of the region’s most talked-about small towns—and for good reason. Nestled in the heart of York County, Fort Mill blends Southern charm, outdoor adventure, and an emerging food scene that’s perfect for a quick day trip or weekend outing.
We recently spent a day exploring Fort Mill, and it’s safe to say it belongs on every Charlottean’s local travel list.
Start Your Day at Kingsley Town Center
Our first stop was Kingsley, a picturesque mixed-use development centered around a peaceful lake. The vibe here is relaxed but lively, and there’s no shortage of dining options. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh tacos at Paco Taco, elevated comfort food at Napa at Kingsley, or a casual bite at Carolina Ale House, you’ll find something that hits the spot.
What makes Kingsley truly special is the setting. Many restaurants offer lakeside patio seating, making it easy to enjoy your meal with a view. After lunch, we grabbed a scoop of ice cream from one of the local dessert spots—an ideal way to cool down before continuing the day.
Explore Nature and Music at Anne Springs Close Greenway
Next, we headed to the Anne Springs Close Greenway, specifically the Dairy Barn entrance, where sweeping meadows, walking trails, and rustic charm welcome you into nature. On Thursday evenings during the summer, the Greenway hosts the Rooted Rhythms concert series at the Comporium Amphitheater. The lineup includes live music in a laid-back, family-friendly setting from May through July.
Admission is affordable, with tickets just $7 for adults and $5 for kids ages 5 to 12. Children under four and Greenway members get in free. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and friendly golf cart shuttles are available to help you from the lot to the amphitheater—a nice touch for families with kids in tow. Don’t forget to stop by the barn to see the horses before the show starts.
As the sun sets and the music fills the air, it’s easy to forget you’re only a short drive from Charlotte.
