Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Announces Spectacular 79th Season Lineup for 2026–27

CHARLOTTE, NC — Families can look forward to a season full of imagination, adventure, music, and heart as Children’s Theatre of Charlotte unveils its highly anticipated 79th season. The 2026–27 lineup features beloved classics, exciting new productions, immersive experiences, and Broadway favorites designed to entertain audiences of all ages.

From sensory-friendly theatre for preschoolers to inspiring historical dramas and family musicals, this season promises unforgettable live performances that celebrate storytelling, creativity, and connection.

Highlights From the 2026–27 Season

Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure: A Sensory Theatre Experience

Aug. 20–30, 2026 | Wells Fargo Playhouse

Designed especially for preschoolers and children with sensory sensitivities, this immersive theatrical experience transports families straight into Neverland. Featuring onstage seating, puppetry, music, and interactive storytelling, the production creates a gentle and welcoming environment where children are encouraged to move, play, and explore.

A Year With Frog and Toad

Sept. 19–Oct. 11, 2026 | McColl Family Theatre

Arnold Lobel’s beloved characters leap from the page to the stage in this charming Tony-nominated musical celebrating friendship through every season of the year. Filled with catchy songs and lovable characters, it’s a joyful production for audiences of all ages.

One Noble Journey: A Box Marked Freedom

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical

Nov. 21–Dec. 23, 2026 | McColl Family Theatre

For the first time ever, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will stage the beloved holiday musical featuring the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Max, and iconic songs like “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” The festive production celebrates kindness, community, and holiday spirit.

Doggie On My Doorstep: A Holiday Tail

Dec. 5–23, 2026 | Wells Fargo Playhouse

Returning after audience praise, this dialogue-free holiday adventure combines physical comedy, heartwarming storytelling, and adorable puppetry in a perfect first theatre experience for young audiences.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

Jan. 9–24, 2027 | Wells Fargo Playhouse

GRIMMZ Fairy Tales II: Once Upon a Rhyme

The sequel to the Drama League Award-nominated hit returns with hip-hop storytelling, theatrical effects, and remixed fairy tales packed with humor, rhythm, and imagination.

Disney’s Finding Nemo: A Family Musical

Apr. 3–25, 2027 | McColl Family Theatre

Dive beneath the sea with Nemo, Dory, and Crush in this spectacular musical adaptation of the Disney/Pixar favorite featuring dazzling puppetry, unforgettable music, and a heartfelt story about family and belonging.

Beneath the Baobab Tree

Apr. 17–18, 2027 | Wells Fargo Playhouse

Part of The Kindness Project, this world premiere by Keetha B. follows young Nia and the legendary Anansi in a vibrant celebration of African folklore, storytelling, and tradition.

Parking and Transportation

Parking is available at Seventh Street Station. Guests receive FREE parking with a validated ticket after 5 PM Monday–Friday and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

To validate, bring your parking ticket to the Box Office and use the self-service touch screen tablet located at the counter. Please note that additional rates may apply during high-traffic events.

Important update: Free parking is no longer offered at the ImaginOn Parking Garage, and only 90 minutes of validation are available there.

Public transportation is also a convenient option. The area is served by local transit routes and is within walking distance of nearby stops, making it easy to access the venue without driving.

Nearby Food

Just steps away from the venue, The Market at 7th Street offers a variety of quick, casual dining options. It’s a great stop for families looking for an easy meal or snack before or after the show.

Where to Stay if You’re Visiting Charlotte

If you’re traveling in for the performance, Uptown Charlotte offers several convenient hotel options within a short distance of the theatre district. Staying nearby makes it easy to explore downtown attractions, dining, and entertainment before or after your visit.

Many visitors choose Uptown hotels for their walkability and easy access to performances, restaurants, and family-friendly activities throughout the city—including easy walkable access to Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.

A great family-friendly option is Homewood Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown First Ward, a brand-new property (opened in 2024) offering spacious suites ideal for families, plus beautiful skyline views that make your stay feel extra special.

 

Charlotte Mama Tip

This is a fantastic first theatre experience for little ones. The audience is usually filled with excited, chatty toddlers, so there’s no pressure to stay perfectly quiet during the show. 

While photography isn’t allowed during the performance, families may get a chance for photos afterward when a few puppets come out to greet the audience.

Bonus: Super Saturday happens monthly and features free activities, themed storytimes and tours related to the Children's Theater Production.

Season subscriptions and single tickets for Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s 79th season are now on sale, including sensory-friendly and ASL-interpreted performances. School field trips and touring productions are also available for booking.

Aspiring performers can audition for upcoming productions, with student auditions for How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical scheduled for May 18–19 and adult unified auditions for all Mainstage and touring productions taking place May 29–30.
